About The Event

Enjoy a night filled with melodies from Qawaalis and Ghazals, featuring Sukhawat Ali Khan and his ensemble!

Sukhawat Ali Khan represents the family lineage of the 600-years old Sham Chorasi traditional school of music, which was established during the reign of Akbar and carried on by famous singers such as Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.  Sukhawat Ali Khan’s training in classical raga and Qawwali singing began at the age of seven under his father, legendary vocalist Salamat Ali Khan. 

Sukhawat has performed at Columbia University, the Asian Society of New York, The Metropolitan Museum in New York and the Smithsonian Museum of Washington, D.C. Currently, he lives in the Sacramento area.

Sukhawat will be accompanied by Sapan Gandhi (from Gujrat, India) on flute, Vivek Anand (from Delhi, India) on Vocals and Gurdeep singh (from Punjab, India) on Tabla, Dholak, and Dhol.

This is a Utsav Charity fund-raising event, and all profits will be donated to "Saint John’s Program for Real Change", Sacramento.
